Carnival – Barcelos
Traditional, funny, fun, and lively. These are the main characteristics of the Popular Carnival promoted by the Municipality of Barcelos, which will take place from February 28 to March 4. This year, the event will feature musical performances by Augusto Canário and the Minhotos Marotos. With these ingredients, it is expected that the participants in the grand parade will unleash their imagination and bring the best of popular satire to the streets. This year, the parade will include the participation of 35 associations, three dozen floats, and thousands of performers dressed appropriately, filling the streets of Barcelos with color, joy, and good spirits. The 2025 edition begins on February 28 (Friday) at 10:30 AM with the Schools’ Carnival Parade and Street Animation in the Historic Center of the City, with the participation of 700 children. Two days later, on March 2 (Sunday), it will be time for the Big-Headed and Giant Figures Parade to take to the streets at 3:00 PM, also in the Historic Center of Barcelos. On Monday night (March 3) at 9:00 PM, the Carnival Mask Contest will take place on Avenida da Liberdade. After the contest and award ceremony, a grand popular dance will follow, with a performance by Minhotos Marotos. Finally, on Carnival Tuesday at 3:00 PM, the grand parade of the Popular Carnival will take place, starting on Avenida João Duarte, passing through Avenida da Liberdade, and ending at the City Park. This will be followed by a musical performance by Augusto Canário and Friends, on Avenida da Liberdade.
